Linking widgets to your site with My targets

Widgets control real equipment through targets: controllers, zones, groups, devices and system variables read from a site in the zencontrol cloud. You build a short list of targets for the project in My targets, then apply one to each widget. Manual IP and address entry is no longer used.

1. Sign in

  1. Click My targets in the toolbar.

  2. Click Sign in with zencontrol and complete the sign-in in the window that opens.

  3. Once signed in, the My targets window shows Refresh, the time of the last refresh, Re-sync IPs and Sign out.

2. Choose the site

  1. Pick the site from the Site list. Every site your account can access is listed.

  2. If the site has tenancies, filter with Tenancy (default All tenancies).

  3. Use Search targets... to find a target by name or address.

3. Add targets to the project

The window has two lists: Site targets on the left and My targets (the project's list) on the right. Each has tabs:

TabListsShown as
ControllerEach application controller on the siteNumber, name and model; once added it is used as that controller's Broadcast target
ZoneZones (including multicast zones)Zone name and its multicast address
GroupDALI groups per controllerController name, group number and name
DeviceIndividual DALI devicesController.address and name, for example 1.0
VariableSystem variablesVariable name per controller

To add targets:

  • Tick one or more rows and click the > arrow in the middle, or

  • Double-click a row to move it across straight away.

To remove targets, tick them in My targets and click <, or double-click them. The tab labels on the right show counts, for example Group 2, Device 1. Close the window when done.

My targets: (1) Refresh, Re-sync IPs and Sign out, (2) Site, Tenancy and search, (3) Site targets tabs, the add/remove arrows and the project's My targets list. Site name and IP addresses are masked.

4. Apply a target to a widget

  1. Select the widget.

  2. In Command / Target (or Targeting on data widgets, Targets on Schedule buttons), click Use my targets.

  3. A list of your saved targets opens, grouped by type, each with its controller's IP address. Click one.

  4. The target now shows at the top of the section, and the widget's command fields appear.

Applying a target: (2) Use my targets, (3) pick from your saved targets, grouped by type

Each widget only offers the target types it can use:

WidgetTarget types offered
Command button, On/off button, sliders, colour widgetsGroups, devices, zones, broadcast (On/off and Command also accept system variables)
Data slider, Variable, Adjustable dataSystem variables only
Schedule buttonUp to 20 groups, devices, zones or broadcast (not system variables)

If the list says No matching targets, add a target of the right type in My targets first.

Keeping targets current

  • Refresh reloads the site's controllers, groups, devices and variables after changes in the zencontrol app.

  • Re-sync IPs updates the controller IP addresses stored with your targets, for example after a controller is re-addressed. Re-sync before saving a project for site handover.

  • Targets are saved in the project file, so reopening the project restores each widget's target.

Tips

  • Name groups and devices well in the zencontrol site before you start; those names are what you will pick from.

  • Add only the targets the project needs. A short My targets list makes applying them quick.

  • The builder may briefly show a rate-limit banner on very large sites while it loads data; it retries automatically.
