Command button and On/off button

The Command button sends a DALI command (scene, recall, step, level) to a target and is the workhorse of most layouts. The On/off button is a two-state toggle that sends one command when switched on and another when switched off.

Both need a target from My targets before they do anything (see Linking widgets to your site with My targets).

Command button

Default size: 1 x 1 cells, ceiling-light icon.

Set it up

  1. Add a Command button and set its Widget name and icon.

  2. Under Command / Target, click Use my targets and choose a group or device. The chosen target shows above the command settings.

  3. Choose a Switch type and fill in the commands below.

Command / Target: (1) the applied target, (2) Switch type, (3) Command preset, (4) Long press and Release actions

Switch types

Switch typeBehaviourFields
ActionSends one command each pressCommand preset, Long press action, Release action
ToggleAlternates between two commands each pressCommand preset, Long press, Release, plus Command preset 2, Long press 2, Release 2 for the second state
SceneRecalls a DALI sceneCommand preset lists Scene 0 to Scene 13, plus Long press and Release actions

Command presets

Recall MAX, Recall Min, Off, On and step up, Down and turn off, Up, Down, Step up, Step down, Scene 0 to Scene 13, Arc level change and Direct Arc Power Control (DAPC). Arc level change and DAPC add an ARC level field (0 to 255).

Long press and release

SettingOptionsTypical use
Long press actionNone, Up, Down, Step up, Step downHold to dim up or down
Release actionNone, Inhibit, Arc level change, DAPCStop or set a level when the finger lifts

Example: a single "Lights" button that toggles on and off and dims while held: Switch type Toggle, Command preset Recall MAX, Command preset 2 Off, Long press action Up (state 1) and Down (state 2).

Controller (broadcast) targets

A Controller target from My targets appears as controller name - Broadcast. On a Command button it adds Select targeting mode:

  • Broadcast: the normal switch types and presets, sent to every device on that controller.

  • System command: Command preset offers Change profile with a Profile number (0 to 255), for a button that switches the controller's active profile.

A Broadcast target (1) set to System command with Change profile and a profile number (2)

On/off button

Default size: 2 x 1 cells, power icon.

  1. Add an On/off button, then pick a Toggle style under Element layout: Button (a rounded square icon that fills with colour when on) or Toggle switch (a sliding switch).

  2. Under Command / Target, click Use my targets and choose the target.

  3. Set Command preset (sent when switched on) and Command preset 2 (sent when switched off), for example Recall MAX and Off.

  4. Set On or Active state colour so the on state is obvious.

On/off button: (1) Toggle style, (2) the applied target, (3) Command preset (on) and Command preset 2 (off)

When the target is a system variable, the button instead sends Preset 1 when toggled on and Preset 2 when toggled off, each a value from 0 to 255.

Which one to use

  • One press does one thing (a scene, all off): Command button, Action or Scene.

  • A clear on/off control with a visible state: On/off button.

  • One button that cycles and dims: Command button, Toggle with long-press actions.

Tips

  • Duplicate a finished button for each scene and change only the name and preset.

  • An all-off button stands out with Background colour set to the theme's Error colour.
