Wiring guidelines in accordance to IEC62386-101 for DALI wiring

When designing a DALI installation, there are a number of rules that must be followed when it comes to the physical wiring of the line. These rules are:

  • No more than 2VDC voltage drop between any 2 DALI devices connected to the same line
  • No more than 2VDC voltage drop between any DALI device and the connected DALI power supply
  • The wire used for the DALI line must be considered suitable for Low Voltage installations

In addition to this, the following guidelines should also be followed

  • The maximum distance that any DALI device should be from a power supply should not exceed 300 metres
  • The maximum distance that should be between any DALI device should not exceed 300 metres

With this information at hand, the chart below outlines the cable size recommendations.
