Colour picker and Colour slider (RGBWAF)

Two widgets control colour-changing fixtures: the Colour picker, a colour field and hue strip for picking any colour by eye, and the Colour slider, a set of per-channel sliders for exact RGB, RGBW or RGBWAF mixes.

Both take a target (a group or device of colour-capable fixtures, typically DALI DT8) from Use my targets under Command / Target.

A colour page: the Colour picker's (1) saturation/brightness field and (2) hue strip, and (3) a Colour slider in RGBW mode

Colour picker

Default size: 3 x 3 cells. Give it room: a larger picker is easier to use with a finger.

  • The left area is a saturation / brightness field; the strip on the right picks the hue. Drag in either area. A swatch shows the current colour.

  • Output mode (under Colour Picker Settings):

Output modeSendsUse when
XYCIE xy colour coordinatesThe fixture supports colour as xy (the most widely compatible DT8 colour type)
RGBWRed, green, blue and white channel levelsThe fixture is a channel-based RGBW fitting

Check the fixture's DT8 colour type before choosing.

Colour slider (RGBWAF)

Default size: 3 x 4 cells, horizontal, six sliders.

SettingOptions
ModeRGB (3 channels), RGBW (4) or RGBWAF (6: red, green, blue, white, amber, free / flex)
Channel controlsR, G, B, W, A and F buttons switch individual channels on or off. A disabled channel is hidden and outputs 0
Slider typePercentage or Arc
Show percentageShows each channel's value
Show channel labelsShows the R / G / B / W / A / F letters
AppearanceThickness, Orientation, Slider ends and Slider button, as for other sliders

Colour slider settings: (1) Mode, (2) Channel controls (shown in RGBWAF mode)

Each slider is coloured to match its channel.

Example: an RGBW strip

  1. Add a Colour slider and set Mode to RGBW.

  2. Apply the strip's group with Use my targets.

  3. Turn on Show channel labels so the user can tell the white slider from the others.

  4. Switch Orientation to Vertical if the widget is tall and narrow.

Picker or sliders?

  • End users choosing a colour by eye: Colour picker.

  • Installers or advanced users mixing exact channel levels, or fixtures with amber / white channels: Colour slider.

  • Tunable white only (no colour): Colour temp slider (see Arc slider, Colour temp slider and Modern slider).

  • Pair either with an Arc slider for overall brightness.
